Jaguar’s First Electric SUV is Finally Unveiled… Digitally!

Jaguar IPace compact all electric SUV has been unveiled this week by Jaguar in cyber space. Yes, a little odd. The actual unveiling will take place next week in Geneva at the Auto Show. With the newly released pictures and specs there weren’t that many surprises. The car will have about 220 miles in EPA rated range, 90kWh battery, 1000,000 mi / 8 year warranty on the battery, Alexa integration, etc. Nothing that really blows your mind but not bad nevertheless.

What did raise some eyebrows was the price. Apparently the IPace will start a bit higher than most anticipated at $87,000. That’s about $10,000 more than most people thought would be reasonable granted the range and the lack of fast-charging solutions.

However, the most bizarre thing about the Jaguar IPace unveiling was the video posted by Jaguar where IPace raced the Tesla Model X with some really weird rules with the breaking distance added to the competition. Model X is a much heavier car, though the 75D model is very close in the 0-60 specs. What was odd that the Model X driver wanted to drive a P100D and the host of the segment seemed to grant his wish. However, all the driver ended up with was the regular 100D which, of course, still lost to IPace because of the breaking distance while the 0-60 specs were only 0.2 seconds off in favor of IPace. Tesla Model X P100D would have smoked the IPace with its 2.9 second record of going 0 to 60 mph.
