Online magazine Electrek has reported today that its inside sources are reporting that Tesla’s latest Autopilot software is in its final beta testing stages. That means that if everything goes well it should be available to all Tesla customers within the next few weeks.
Tesla’s second generation of Autopilot has been lagging behind its very first version for over 2 years. The original version was developed by Mobileye which has since been acquired by Intel. After Tesla parted ways with Mobileye it has attempted to develop its own version but it turned out to be tougher than they thought. Many features have been missing from the second version and only now it looks like the latest version will finally match the 1.0 version from 2015.
The two main features that will likely be added is a better and smoother ability to stay in the lane and the ability to see other cars, bikes and trucks in the lanes next to the car.
Many other features that Elon Musk promised back in January will probably come later in the year.
